ICSU Commitee on Freedom and Responsbility in the conduct of Science (CFRS)
The ICSU CFRS serves as the guardian of the Principle of the Universality of Science, laid out in ICSU Statute 5. This principle embodies freedom of movement, association, expression and communication for scientists, as well as equitable access to data, information and research materials. Just as important, it requires responsibility at all levels to carry out and communicate scientific work with integrity, respect, fairness, trustworthiness, and transparency.
Several of the issues this ICSU committee deals with are directly related to the work of the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences. This concerns, notably, the dossiers ethics, scientific integrity as well as the dialogue between science and society.
