td-net, Network for Transdisciplinary Research
The network was launched in 2000 by the Swiss Academic Society for Environmental Research and Ecology (SAGUF) and taken over by the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT) in 2003. Since 2008, the td-net for transdisciplinary research has been a project of the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences.
Transdisciplinarity implies that open access to scientific information is granted to the wider public. Often, however, it is also necessary to look into socially-relevant problems in an interdisciplinary way and to develop effective strategies for politics, economy and society. For this purpose, extensive space- and time-dependent processes of different scales need to be investigated (systems knowledge) and the related problems of controlling and the possibilities of forming and structuring (knowledge of transformation) must be evaluated.
