Junge Alpenforschende ausgezeichnet
Anlässlich der Nachwuchsforschertagung Phil.Alp in Thun hat die Alpenforschungskommission ICAS der Akademien der Wisssenschaften Schweiz die Geologin Corinne Kämpfer (Institut für Geologie der Universität Bern) und Dr. Frieder Voll (Institut für Geographie der Universität Erlangen, Deutschland) mit Anerkennungspreisen ausgezeichnet. Corinne Kämpfer analysierte in ihrer Masterarbeit Ausbrüche von neuen Seen im Zusammenhang mit Gletscherbewegungen – in Zeiten des Gletscherschwundes ein bedeutender Gefahrenherd. Frieder Voll zeigte in seiner Dissertation, dass für die Entwicklung einer Alpenregion die Erreichbarkeit innerhalb der Regionen wichtiger ist als die Anbindung an übergeordnete Verkehrsnetze.

Internet-Diskussion zur MINT-Tagung vom 23./24.10.2012 in Basel
Die Akademien der Wissenschaften Schweiz führen zusammen mit anderen Partnern im Rahmen der WORLDDIDAC Basel / Didacta Schweiz am 23./24.10.2012 in Basel eine MINT-Tagung durch. Wir laden Sie herzlich ein, bereits im Vorfeld der Tagung an einer Internet-Diskussionen teilzunehmen. Was fällt Ihnen zu den MINT-Fachbereichen ein, also zu Mathematik, Informatik, Naturwissenschaften und Technik? Wieso haben wir einen Fachkräftemangel und wie könnten wir diesen beheben? Die Ergebnisse der Internet-Diskussionen werden in einer Publikation zusammengestellt und geben einen wichtigen Input für die Tagung selber.

New web platform for school teachers
In Switzerland, there is a lack of engineering specialists. Studies show that for creating an educational impact, an interest for the MINT subject areas (mathematics, informatics, natural sciences, technics) must be conveyed early in life. The Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences have founded educa.MINT, a web platform offering teachers help and orientation with the vast number of materials and events that are available for teaching children of any age in the MINT subject areas.

Swiss MD-PhD programme
Together with the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and with the assistance of private foundations, the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences (SAMS) awards MD-PhD scholarships to medical doctors to do a PhD. In 2006 the programme was extended to include the scientific fields that are especially relevant for public health, such as epidemiology, biostatistics and health ecology. Since 2008, a PhD can also be accomplished in the field of biomedical ethics.
Focus on Youth
It has become clear for some years now that the focus in the education of young people is moving away from the natural science subjects. Moreover, young people do not perceive the natural sciences as interesting subjects with potential for future development. For this reason, the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT) decided to focus in a more targeted way on the promotion of the future generation in the natural sciences.
