Private sponsoring of chairs: animated workshop
More than 30 representatives from tertiary institution administrations, cantonal departments of education, researchers and funders took part in the workhop «Sponsoring of chairs: opportunities and risks» in Berne on 23 October. The input presentations were followed by an animated discussion on the implications of such private financing on the independence of university research. A majority of participants spoke out in favour of the Academies developing guidelines to protect the interests of donors and beneficiaries.

Scientific integrity
In 2006, the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences established the Committee "Scientific Integrity", which traces national and international developments and which takes position on general questions related to scientific integrity.
The commission advises research institutions, research promoting institutions and political authorities on fundamental questions. In 2008, the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences published the brochure "Scientific integrity: principles and rules of procedure".
